translucent/transcendent
an exhibition of glass art by the members of the bcgaa

 Monday, August 15th through
Sunday, August 28th, 2005

The Exhibition Hall at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre
Davie Street & Pacific Boulevard, Vancouver

Translucent / Transcendent, the theme for this year's show, was inspired by the properties of glass itself and its interplay with light - translucence, reflection, refraction. Glass artists play with these properties in an infinite variety of ways, sometimes moving beyond them, to transcendence.

The B.C. Glass Arts Association has been showcasing the work of artists in glass since 1988. Nearly 100 members work with hot, warm, and cold glass to produce sculpture, decorative and functional vessels, jewellery, and architectural art. The exhibit included works by Mark Roth who was one of the first recipients of the BC Creative Achievement Awards, and two recent inductees into the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, Robert Held RCA and Mary Filer RCA.

The Roundhouse is a fabulous venue to display glass and this was an exciting show, with such a variety of work.
