Meltdown

The 9th Biennial B.C. Glass Art Exhibition
Simon Fraser University
August 4 to 14, 2009

Diversity and depth are two words people use when they refer to the glass art community of Western Canada. For two decades Simon Fraser University has hosted a biennial exhibition of some of the best work from BC artists working in glass. Not only does it direct academic attention to the diversity and artistic depth of glass art, it regularly explores the variety of art being created in the region at that moment in time. In continuing tradition a prize will be awarded for the Jury's selection of the best piece in the show. This piece will be added to the art collection of Simon Fraser University. This serves to build a collection of art representing the evolution of the British Columbia glass art community.

The BC glass art community was in its infancy when SFU began the Biennial in 1990. Since then the community has changed greatly along with the province. Not only have the amount of artists using glass increased, but the variety of ways they use it. It reflects the diversity of the talent in the province and the international glass art scene.
