It flows, drips, sparkles, and comes out of the Glory Hole. Drink out of it, crack it, wear it, and love it! Andrew Luketic, President, BCGAA, At the GLASS + LIGHT = MAGIC exhibition, August, 2008 The BC Glass Arts Association (BCGAA) is a medium specific organization focused upon glass as an art material. The founding reason for its existence was to increase the visibility of glass as an art form, and to foster growth within the artist members of the organization. It endeavors to carry out this mandate within the province of British Columbia through exhibitions, scholarships, bursaries, and special events. The BCGAA invests in its artist members through scholarship programs. To date over thirty scholarships have been awarded to artists in order to develop growth and potential in their careers. The potential of glass art within the province is only limited by the talent and ideas of the glass artists who call British Columbia home. They create functional items as well as glass installations. They may blow goblets, break and assemble glass elements into sculptures, and fill entire spaces with their ideas. Glass artists both around the province and around the world inspire the scope and projects of the Association. Although exhibitions are a primary mandate, so is promoting an appreciation of the diversity of glass art as a tactile material with many uses. The GLASS dinner is one of the events that achieves this, as is the spectacle of artist members gathering around a molten swirling mass of glass at the annual Christmas show and sale. It is through initiatives like this that glass can evolve both in the minds of British Columbians and the artists who make BC home. The current board of directors is: Andrew Luketic, President |
